The Chair was broadcast on Radio National’s Radio Tonic program, during June 2014. Thanks again to Alan’s sound design, Tanya’s direction, and Janine’s and Elizabeth’s performance.
We’re back from Darwin. It’s chilly in Melbourne and my bandaid tan is hidden (note: if you have a bandaid on your shoulder while you’re out in Darwin and take the bandaid off days later, you’ll have a nice finger-sized tan spot).
Last week Talon Salon opened at Nail Lovers at Casuarina Square. We were there from Wednesday until Sunday. Thanks to Thi and his niece Stef for hosting us in the salon. Kyle, a local Darwin actor, was our trusty Talon Salon usher. The centre management staff were very supportive. The coffee from Donut King was ok. A highlight moment was when a group of young African children walked by and the adult in the group pointed through the window at two women with Talon Salon headphones. “So relaxing!” she giggled, pointing, excited. The kids turned and looked, and followed in suit with their own giggles.
This week Talon Salon moves into the bustling metro heart of Darwin onto Mitchell Street, for another Wednesday to Sunday run. Li’s cousin Tommy will be our capable usher at the salon. Good luck!
We are VERY excited to be in the topical climate of Darwin. And, of course, there are plenty of festival-y things to do. Like Talon Salon! We have just updated the Listen page, so you can see our new tutti-frutti colours that Clare has whipped up. I am off today to go and replenish our nail polish supply. Meanwhile, Tanya is being very international and working on the final touches to the 2 new tracks from abroad. Thanks to Mr Goldsmith for his immaculate sound design. And thanks to the folk at Darwin Festival, and to our two new ushers who will host all guests in Talon Salon for the Darwin Festival.
Yay! It’s warm in Darwin! It’s eclectic and tropical and relaxed! Talon Salon has been invited to the Darwin Festival 2013. We’ll be at Beautiful Nails on Mitchell Street and Nail Lovers in Casuarina Mall in August 2013. And we’ve made two new tracks, working with Russell Goldsmith as the sound designer and with actors Jing-Xuan Chan, Tom Considine, Piper Huynh and Amanda Ma.
Get your nails done, and see/do/experience a big program of arts. See the Darwin Festival website.
I’m so proud Canberra! What a great event the You Are Here festival was, running from 14-24 March 2013. A big fat wad of kudos and love-beams to the team at YAH. They programmed an endless range of great works, often quite intimate and playful and just all-round lovely.
Check out the You Are Here Facebook page, starting with the Talon Salon photo album.
